Hi

PostAuthor: MartinL » Tue Jul 30, 2013 07:46

:hi hi all. Not new to fish keeping, but only had your ordinary tropicals until now.
We have a Juwel 180 Visio (the curved front tank), and have just re-homed the last 2 Silver Dollars.
Need to clean the tank thoroughly, and start to prepare it for Malawis.
Luckily out local aquarist shop has an experienced Malawi keeper, and he'll be steering us forward...

Plan to replace the in tank filter (take it out) with a Fluval 306, black substrate, and granite or Yorkshire rocks.

It will be just a Mbuna tank, but I'm going to take my time - mainly due to a bit of decorating whilst tank is empty, and having to squeeze a holiday in too.

I'll take a series of pics as we go, and I'll keep you posted!
And I'll be asking daft questions if I can't find any help on the forum - I do know how to use the Search box! :tease:

Hi and welcome.

I suggest that you don't clean out the tank. Keep it running with no fish, you can add the odd raw prawn (or ammonia) from time-to-time and it will feed the filter and this will make it easier and safer to introduce fish when the time comes.

Also, before you start, check the water quality, GH/KH/pH should all be tested. Test the tank and the tap water.

Hi and welcome to the forum. As said before ask as many questions as you like. With the search box just type in a key word for what you are looking for and it will bring up all the posts and topics that that word appears in. Good luck :good:

Right, holidays done, brothers wedding done, and tank latest is all empty and scrubbed. Decorator visits Tuesday to paint behind tank, and then we can finally make a start!
Went out yesterday and bought the Fluval 306 and black substrate, need to get rocks soon, and also new lighting ballast for 2x 35w T5 lights.
Then we can start fishing! :fundance
