Newbie cycling nowHi All! Finally got onto this board after spending some time on the group's FB page instead... LOng-time tropical keeper, but first-time cichlid keeper: Just did my build of a new Malawi tank this weekend, and I'm planning to spend the next few weeks deep in water chem specs! I've got my wishlist of cichlids already (luckily I have an excellent seller in Cleveland who sells only African Rift Lake species): I'm going for Cobalt Blues and Yellow Labs at first, with 2 small-form Plecos...& hoping my existing shrimps can eventually make the transition to the higher pH environment...(fingers crossed)
Re: Newbie cycling nowHey and welcome
![]() Looking forward to seeing the build. Do you have any pics? What size tank have you gone for?

Re: Newbie cycling nowpamela, ive filled the tank on the thursday night, added de-chlorinator ( i don't need to but you could buffer the water in one hit to the right ph) put fish in the next day and added a product called aqua safe start bingo fully cycled instantly, well not quite i added two further doses over the next two days, no spikes no ammonia no nitrites have shown up in any tests 10 wild fish behaving as they have been in there for years

Re: Newbie cycling nowHi and welcome to the forum
I can also vouch for the safe start, I added half a dozen wilds into a "new" tank and like Leaky I added a second/third top up. No problems, losses or water quality issues. It is very good stuff - if a touch expensive. Matt ![]()

I think he got it wrong as he only reaches the bottom of the label when standing on tippy toes. Try a ladder next time leaky. Lakemalawi.co.uk The number one resource centre on Malawi Cichlids.
Re: Newbie cycling now
Isn't there a pic somewhere of leaky up a ladder trying to see in the tanks at Natural World?
