Hi Guys N Girls

PostAuthor: dave1976 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 16:46

Another newbie from Yorkshire, I'm from Penistone near Sheffielld. I have had tropical fish for about 5 Years Moved from house to house renting until 1 tennent said no pets what so ever. We have just moved again the tank is back but this time I have stocked over 6 weeks 15 Malawis only small one mix of colours, ( if some one tells me how to post pictures I will pop some on) I want to get them breeding eventually not sure how simple that is. The fish seem to be doing ok feeding well but want to make sure I have done things right. Tank is 4ft long x 1 1/2 ft tall x 1 ft depth I think this is about 50 UK Gallons, I have a Fluval 4 head and spunge filter thing which I rinse out every 4 weeks in luke warm water, water change ever 2 weeks 70%, heater, and a 2ft 800mm florescent tube. I am getting loads of brown algae What Can I do? I have just added last night a 3inch bristlenose plec to see if it can help but so far just hides. Any sugestions??????????

Hi

You will find it very helpful on here and very friendly.

I only had brown algae for a couple of weeks and it rapidly went.

Someone on here will bound to be able to help.

Regards

Ian

Hi and welcome to the forum !

Two options with the algea - either have the lights on less = no algea. Or since IMO brown algea eventually becomes green algea leave lights on longer..the green algea will look fairly natural.
