7 - Swollen Body

PostAuthor: Nads » Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:37

There are several reasons why a fish may develop a swollen or bloated shape. These include the following;

- Dropsy

- Internal Bacterial Infection

- Malawi Bloat

- Obesity due to overfeeding

Alternatively the fish may have just consumed a large meal or, in the case of females, may be full of eggs and ready to spawn.

If the swollen shape develops over time then it is more likely to be due to obesity. A more sudden development of swelling is an indication of the other conditions mentioned in the list above.
