Cauliflower Disease

PostAuthor: Nads » Sun Feb 17, 2008 11:01

Cauliflower disease is a viral infection in fish, such as cichlids, that gets it name due to the appearance of white-ish cysts that can merge together to form cauliflower shaped growths on the fish.

Symptoms

- Small white, grey or pinkish growths that occur mainly on the fins but can appear on the body and head of the fish.

- Initially these growths are similar in appearance to Whitespot but will grow much larger as the virus spreads.

Cause

Lymphocystis virus

Transmission

- Transmission can be from fish to fish as one fish picks at the cysts on another or it can be contracted when the virus is free swimming in the water.

Treatment

There is no known treatment for cauliflower disease although fish may recover on there own and if they do can gain immunity from the virus.
