Having baby bearded dragons. I was hoping I wouldn't this year but it looks like I might be. She's looking rather chunky and they have been trying.
I cant think of anything to put here right now.

We will see how it goes, I am hoping still that they never managed it and she is going through a fatty stage. Its takes alot of funds to raise a clutch of dragons to selling age. Ill know for sure soon if she starts going like a roly poly when basking.

Oh good, I wouldn't want you to think I was buying you with a favour or something. I will update you as things progress, even if I forgot to update me thread.

Good luck with her Why does it cost so much to raise them ? Clare wrote:oi, dont you worry there is only a one of me in the world... you could try to make more but it would be totally impossible.
Yeah it would, couldn't be doing with 2 of you.

When they are growing they eat crickets like they are going out of fashion. It will cost me about £5 a day to raise say a clutch of 15. They are old enough at 8 weeks to sell. There is no profit at all in breeding dragons unless they are the high end morphs. The experience is good though I recon so if it happens, it happens.

They do not smell, if anyone told you they smell then it means they dont clean them out. Anything smells if you dont clean it.
At 8 weeks I would sell them for between £20-£25. They are laid as eggs and hatch from the eggs and you can keep them together to read them in a viv with 2 spot lights and heat mats but to be able to rear them right they have to have enough food so they dont eat eachothers tails or toes.
Some shops take on dragons at 4 weeks if they are feeding and sell them for £30-50. I would not do this and sell them at this age, even to shops unless the shops bring them on more before selling them as there is always a runt of a clutch which never makes it. By 8 weeks you know they are all strong enough to survive. Although the rule of thumb is actually 6 inches long which on average is 8 weeks. 8 weeks is easier to go by than measuring them all the time but it could be earlier if they are eating better than your average.

is that the same rule of thumb that says you can whoop your wife with a dragons tail so long as its not as thick as . . . . . .sorry very interesting thread. breeding snakes, fish, dragons. . . .glad you found a little time for your own breading programme(serenity) seriously though well done. you obviously care for all your animals to a high standard.

haha. That rule of thumb always comes in handy. Yes, my own breeding days are done so I can divulge in the awe inspiring miracle of other breeding lol. My time is taken up by making sure all 23 of my snakes plus from today 12 lodgers so 35 snakes have all the handling, care and love they need to mature into handleable beauties. Dragons, well they love a fuss every so often and a bath but they are the most low maintenance, as long as they have salad every day and live food once a week,. When they want attention you cant ignore them as they claw at the viv and I have to sit there and talk to them or fuss them to get them to shush lol. The creature that need the most attention in my house are by far the fish... the most high maintenance hobby I have ever had lol.

35 snakes ! you breed mice too ? hungry hungry snakes like a little mouse for tea i have developed an irrational fear of snakes that i never used to have, don't know why but its happened. i can hardly even look at them for more than a few seconds, tryed to face my fear with brother inlaws albino corn, think it just reinforced my ridiculous new found fobia. both the wife an lola find it very funny .
