Two filters is definately better than 1 in my opinion as well..........
I have a sump and Fluval 405 running on my set up. The sump will run the tank by itself - the cannister is just an emergency back up!
Peters given you a good steer on where to put the outlets as well. Try to avoid extract points to close to the inlets is about all I can add......
Matt

Definitely 2 filters. I have a FX5 and a Fluval 405. Inlets and outlets at both sides of the tank. Its good for maintenance of filters too as you can stagger it and not do it all at the same time.
I cant think of anything to put here right now.

Hi I've got 4 inches of water in the tank so the probe is now sitting in it and the Ph is around the 8.1, I can't run the r/o 24/7 as the pump wouldn't take it and burn out, it's one of those run for an hour, off for 20 mins kinda thing. It took a week to fill the last time but I didn't have a pump on the unit, it should be done about sunday / monday. Can't wait. I've had to increase the support under the tank as the sandstone is heavier than live rock so added an extra metal cross lintel in the middle as a "just in case" I've got the power units up, the heating/cooling control mounted, ph monitor and top up controls mounted. Heaters are in the tank just waiting on the water to reach them. I'm about to go out f or Chicken Tikka Shilma and stuff my face with food and beer Catch you cats l8r daddio Ty

Thanks Vinboy, TBH I was a little scared after the reef that just rock would be boring, but I'm really quite pleased with the look, It's dark and moody. Really looking forward to getting some movement in there I was lucky that the hole in the wall is 6ft and then got an offer of a 7ft tank so there is 6 inch either side I can hide stuff. Thanks again for your kind words, More pics will follow but its just water rocks and a pump just now, dont even have lighting yet Cheers Ty

Hi people Well got my lights sorted I have gone for these http://www.tmc-ltd.co.uk/aquarium/aquabeam-500.asp I have 4 Marine white, 2 reef white and 2 reef blue. I didn't get the controller yet but will save my pennies and get one next month As soon as I get them set up I will post a few pics for ya. Next Q is, how long would you expect the tank to cycle? Thats been a week since I put some bio start in and I bought a used 4ft tank for a grow out tank which came with a filter and its been running in the main tank for a week to help it mature. My stats are PH 7.84 GH 7 KH 5 (I know this should be around 10/12 but I'll get it there) No2 zero No3 5 mg/l I would have expected a spike but nothing much has changed from last week except the gh has risen. Should I be putting a fish in to kick it of more, maybe a common plec or something? Let me know your views. Cheers Ty

Why not just get some safestart, you can add the fish within a couple of hours then.
I have never done fishless cycles. I have always used goldfish lol.
I cant think of anything to put here right now.
